Rainbow in the Dark is a small queer cut-flower farm and plant nursery, based in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans.
We're Charlotte and Chris, and Rainbow in the Dark is our little queer cut-flower farm and plant nursery! (Aka "RBOW".)
We grow plants and flowers on a small scale, in a shared greenhouse and a few empty lots in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. We offer flowers through a seasonal flower CSA (a weekly or biweekly subscription), at farmers' markets and pop-ups, and for weddings and other special occasions.
We also sell plant starts seasonally, with a focus on natives, perennials, and specialty varieties of flowering annuals that aren't otherwise available to the general public. For updates and more pictures, follow us on Instagram!
RBOW is an active member of the New Orleans Flower Collective, a network of flower growers sharing knowledge and resources, and building our local flower economy together.
We're founding members of Bottomlands Agricultural Cooperative, a regional co-op of growers joining forces to broaden our market reach and build our power. More on that soon!
RBOW is also a proud member of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, an international trade organization of flower farmers supporting each other through education, community, and research.
We can't wait for you to get some of our flowers! The easiest and best method is through our Flower CSA ("community supported agriculture"), a subscription program where you prepay for a season's worth of flowers, for pickup weekly or biweekly.
Once our main Fall 2024 season starts in October, we're also planning to sell flowers by the bouquet at 3 weekly markets (and occasionally at 1 cafe)— see below for details on that.
UPDATE FOR JULY / AUGUST 2024:
We are currently in "estivation mode", which is to say, the farm is hibernating for summer. We expect to return with a flower CSA program (for weekly or biweekly pickup) starting in October 2024, to run through December. Our big spring CSA will begin in March 2025.
